ABSTRACT

The introduction identifies problems in technical and professional communication (TPC) that are unaddressed by our field’s scholarship thus far, and these problems are directly addressed in this book. The introduction prepares readers for the book’s content: for example, explaining the necessity of drawing upon scholars and activists outside TPC and preparing readers to engage with the difficulties we face in acknowledging and resisting our complicity in oppression. After reviewing the central motivations for the book, we turn toward problem-solving and propose coalitions and coalition building as the next step in our field’s social justice turn, asserting that intersectional coalitions are key to understanding and enacting social justice.
