ABSTRACT

Mobilities research contributes to a body of thinking that assumes we as humans are not independent of our material worlds. Mobile methodologies, and the mobile methods used to express these, are underrepresented in outdoor studies despite being a field that is underpinned by movement. This chapter presents one methodological response to this challenge; a walking interview with educators in their sites of practice. Using provoking questions, and a research example, how mobile methods provided a nuanced understanding of education in outdoor settings is explored. Implications for other researchers who might devise and employ mobile methods in outdoor studies are suggested.
