ABSTRACT

The founding program director of Atlanta’s chapter of the internationally-known Center for Endometriosis Care (CEC) describes everyday acts of extraordinary outreach in the service of educating and empowering women with endometriosis. The writer recalls countless hours spent on the phone and at the computer as well as on presentations all over the country, in church basements, and in enormous auditoriums. The author shares valuable lessons for women’s health advocates to consider: Knowledge is power; trust what you experience in your own body despite what others assume; doctors don’t know everything; and speak up for yourself.
