ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors argue that self-disclosure, or what they call rhetorics of self-disclosure, is a critical component of infertility activism, particularly in the context of women’s healthcare. Drawing from their own embodied experiences of infertility, as well as from the activist work of infertility advocacy organizations such as The ART of Infertility and RESOLVE, the authors demonstrate how self-disclosing infertility acts as a counterstory to cultural narratives of pregnancy that silence narratives of reproductive loss.
