ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how to characterize the set of tangent vectors to curves x(t) passing through x* and how to establish the equations satisfied by a local extreme point x*. It also shows how to identify the candidate point for optimality and explores the global optimality of a constrained local candidate point. The chapter explains how to establish the dependence of the optimal value of the objective function with respect to certain parameters involved in the problem.
