ABSTRACT
Laboratory and patient-based studies of the mechanisms by which HIV gains entry into cells have opened up new fields of chemokine and chemokine receptor biology in many areas of medicine. We are only just coming to recognize the seminal role of these molecules in local immunoregulatory pathways in different body compartments and their seminal role in initiating, promoting and maintaining inflammation.
