The new millennium has brought with it much change since the 1999 edition of this book. September 11, 2001 changed the U.S. view and perception of the meaning of terrorism. The financial debacles of Enron, WorldCom, and others provided a more realistic and fragile view of the U.S. economic infrastructure. The downfall of Arthur Andersen LLP offers a vivid reminder of the responsibility of auditors to the public, stockholders, and taxpayers and that ethics and the practice of due professional care have both meaning and substance to the auditors’ practice.
