Information Technology Environment: Why Are Controls and Audit Important?
Much has changed in the world since the first edition. With these changes, the role of information technology (IT) control and audit has become a critical mechanism for ensuring the integrity of information systems and the reporting of corporation finances to avoid and hopefully to prevent future financial fiascos such as Enron, WorldCom, and Global Crossing. Also, the events of September 11, 2001, have changed the way Americans think and operate. Homeland Security has become a high priority within the United States and other countries, and that extends to the electronic infrastructure of commerce worldwide. The need to control and audit IT has never been greater.
