Demography This remains commonest genital abnormality affecting approximately 1 in 300 boys. There is an increased risk of this defect in siblings (14%) and offspring (8%) of a hypospadiac patient. No distinct method of inheritance has as yet been identified. Hypospadias is associated with increased incidence of testicular maldescent (9-30%) and around 1 in 10 have an associated inguinal hernia.
