ABSTRACT
Qualitative research has traditionally been the domain of social sciences such as anthropology and sociology. However, in recent years this type of research has become established as an important tool in medical and nursing health research. Many high-quality qualitative research studies are appearing in mainstream medical journals. Despite this, doctors and other health care professionals, who have traditionally been taught and practised quantitative research, are unfamiliar with qualitative research.
