ABSTRACT

In recent years, the role of imaging has become ever more important in the care of patients with a wide range of GI problems, and gastroenterologists have become accustomed to working closely with colleagues in the radiology department. At its simplest level, this can involve a weekly clinicoradiological meeting, but this can evolve into much closer patterns of working between the two departments to the benefit of patients. Integrated investigation pathways can be developed for patients with conditions such as jaundice, dysphagia and IDA. Such close working links are greatly facilitated if the endoscopy unit is in close proximity to the radiology department and particularly the fluoroscopy facility, where barium studies are performed.
