ABSTRACT
The standard adopted for the initial management of major trauma in the UK is that set by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This is taught using the methodology laid down in the Advanced Trauma Life Support manual and taught on ATLS courses in the UK under the direction of the ATLS Steering Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This manual and the associated courses teach one system of management.
