ABSTRACT
The incidence of serious maxillofacial injury has fallen significantly since the introduction of legislation in the mid 1980s making the wearing of seatbelts compulsory. Such injuries may be of only cosmetic significance. Some may be life threatening due to airway obstruction. If the maxillofacial injury occurs as part of multiple trauma then it is treated according to the standard priorities.
