ABSTRACT

Searching the published literature for articles is a key aspect of evidence-based medicine. When considering an EBM question or topic it is important to think about which sources of information are likely to be the most appropriate. For very important questions, a thorough search of multiple sources is needed, but in many cases a ‘quick and dirty’ search will be all that is required. Three main sources of information exist: paper (largely journals or books); electronic databases and electronic versions of paper publications; and experts.
