ABSTRACT
Modern resuscitation techniques and supportive care are the mainstay of management of a seriously poisoned patient. In view of this some antidotes have been rendered unnecessary because patients will make a full recovery provided vital functions are maintained. However, in certain circumstances, antidotes may be lifesaving or may shorten the duration of toxicity or diminish its severity, increasing the chances of recovery and reducing side effects.
