ABSTRACT
Polydipsia, polyuria and unexplained weight loss are the cardinal symptoms. The patient is dehydrated, due to the osmotic diuresis, with Kussmaul’s breathing and acetone on the breath. The patient may have a depressed level of consciousness or be in coma (10%).
