ABSTRACT
The first and most important investigation is a blood glucose. A stick test should be used initially to exclude hypoglycaemia at the bedside. A laboratory result will confirm the reading. Hypoglycaemia should be treated with 10% glucose at a dose of 5 ml per kg. The blood sugar should be rechecked to gauge response.
