ABSTRACT

In the UK there are estimated to be 200000 admissions each year for myocardial infarction. Acutemyocardial infarction most commonly results from thrombosis within an epicardial coronary artery, triggered by fissuring or rupture of an atheromatous plaque. Platelet aggregation and fibrin deposit on the plaque leading to clot formation and occlusion of the artery.
