ABSTRACT

This Keynote presentation will examine design and operational aspects associated with full-scale biofilter applications. It discusses challenges faced by designers in converting laboratory or pilot-scale biofilter research data into designs for full-sized biofilters treating medium to large airflows. By its nature the presentation will be broadly cast, with all pertinent design and operational issues discussed. The list of these issues below summarises key design and operational parameters that need to be followed, if sustainable odour destruction performance is to be achieved. The presentation will focus more on physical design and operational issues, in the understanding that the scaleup of lab or pilot plant designs to full scale is typically limited by physical rather than biological factors.
