ABSTRACT
A massive utilisation of hydrogen is envisaged in the early future, due to the development and broad use of novel specific technologies. Thus, hydrogen facilities will probably spread around the territory, both in industrial sites (e.g., production plants) and urban areas (e.g. installation of hydrogen refuelling stations). Moreover, small scale applications (such as domestic or automotive uses) may lead to an increase of the potential hazards in highly vulnerable areas (Cadwallader & Herring 1999, Conte et al. 2001, Zhou 2005).
