ABSTRACT

What is IO really about in practice? We have studied IO and changes in work practices at different assets on the NCS. According to our research results, the most important effects of IO are the changes in work practices – due to both management performance and teamwork performance (Skarholt & Næsje 2008, Næsje & Skarholt 2008). In our 2007 research project we found that the positive effects of integrated operations were the transparent and efficient problem solving and decision making processes within HSE and production. Also, we found that the empowerment of operators and the model of “one directed team” within operations and maintenance yielded positive HSE effects. The high degree of transparency concerning work activities is critical for the dynamic between functions (between operations, management, and technical support).
