ABSTRACT
For many years DNV, and other classification societies, have used the term “proven in principle” to give acceptance to proposals containing new technical solutions. This has been a useful concept under the classification system where the client shall comply with defined standards and rules. However, when new technological solutions are classified as “proven in principle”, it merely means that no obvious violation of the relevant rules and standards has been identified.
