ABSTRACT

Self-excited dynamic effects can occur in granular bodies during confined flow in silos in the form of strong vibrations accompanied by a booming sound. These strong dynamic effects have been recorded under various conditions, e.g., in large full scale silos, small experimental models, during mass, funnel or expanded flow, during controlled or free outlet, and in cohesionless or cohesive granular silo solids (Wensrich 2002, Muite et al. 2004).
