ABSTRACT

The inelastic flexural behavior of unbounded posttensioned concrete beams is inherently complicated, and reliable nonlinear behavior can usually be obtained through physical tests on actual beams (Chakrabarti 1995; Harajli 1991). However, tests are time consuming, expensive, and test results are generally limited to surfacemeasurements. Thus, this studywas conducted to compare and analyze the results between a finite element method and experimental tests to develop a reliable 3-D finite element model to simulate the flexural behavior of unbounded post-tensioned beams.
