ABSTRACT

Prota (Prota et al, 2008) studied the effectiveness of confinement with basalt fibres using a cement based matrix (BRM: Basalt Reinforced Mortar) for bonding. Experimental outcomes on BRM confined concrete cylinders showed that the basalt reinforced mortar confining system could provide a substantial gain both in compressive strength and ductility of concrete members inducing a failure mode less brittle than that achieved in members wrapped with glass fibres.
