ABSTRACT
Free deformation of concrete is mainly related to two local parameters: temperature and water content. As with other materials, concrete expands when heated and shrinks when cooled. Even if it has a porous structure, unlike other materials, concrete presents a great difference in deformation when drying and absorbing water. Thus, moisture deformation that occurs during initial drying is only slightly compensated by any subsequent reversible deformation.
