ABSTRACT

The most common type of balcony from the late 1960’s in Finland consists of frame, slab and parapet elements which are prefabricated from concrete. Those balcony elements are used in so called “balconytowers,” which have their own foundations and the whole tower has been connected to building frames and designed only for horizontal loads. Typical thickness of frame elements is normally 150-160 mm and in parapets 70-85 mm. Parapets usually have quite heavy reinforcement near both surfaces.
