ABSTRACT

In most cases of corrosion surveys on bridge decks potential mapping is done when the site works have started and both asphalt layer and sealing have been removed from the concrete. Single trial openings of the asphalt which are made during the stage of planning for visual inspection – mainly of tendons and tendon ducts – are guided only by visual effects and may cause wrong conclusions about the extent of repair, and sound advice about the necessary concrete repair can usually given only after launching the site works.
