ABSTRACT

However, most Danish dwellings were erected as a combined system (brick masonry) consisting of both brick and mortar. Until around 1910, the use of lime mortar was dominating and later cement mortar or mixtures of cement and lime mortar dominated (Hansen2008). To predict ionic transport in brick masonry, a combined system of brick and mortar was investigated. To the authors’ knowledge, no electrokinetic experiments have been carried out and this is the subject of the present paper. The aim was to clarify the influence of mortar and brick on the overall electromigration in this combined system.
