ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how a performance-based approach has been adopted to optimise the structural re protection for a composite-steelframed structure in the United Kingdom. The adopted solution involves designing the structure so that re protection can be omitted from selected beams. Various methods and design tools described in previous chapters are used in the design, so the methodologies are not new, but this chapter explains how they have been adopted on a real project and examines the differences between four design methods when applied to a real structure.
