- Heat transfer

Heat transfer forms the link between the high-temperature environment to which a structure in re is exposed. The theory of heat transfer is well established, and methods of heat transfer analysis, either analytically or numerically, are well developed. However, the choice of input data, mainly thermal boundary conditions and material thermal properties, to be used in heat transfer analysis for re engineering of structures requires clarication. This is the main focus of this chapter. After presenting a brief introduction to the basics of heat transfer and its modelling, this chapter demonstrates the sensitivity of heat transfer results to variations in input data for heat transfer analysis, leading to some recommendations on how to select appropriate input data for heat transfer analysis.
