ABSTRACT

Landslides in dam reservoirs initiate horrible water waves that cause probable damages to reservoir sidewalls, dam body, adjacent hydraulic structures and agricultural or residential areas (Semenza 2000). If they have huge size, the reservoir capacity decrease and subsequent economical damage is expected. So it is important to estimate the characteristics of impulsive wave generated by landslides in dam reservoirs. Ataie-Ashtiani and Malek-Mohammadi (2007a) studied the landslide generated wave in Shafaroud dam reservoir, in the north of Iran. They used FUNWAVE numerical model (Kirby et al. 1998) for simulating wave propagation. They have also provided empirical equations for the first wave characteristics (AtaieAshtiani & Malek-Mohammadi 2007b).
