ABSTRACT

The problem here considered derives from a previous study (Cividini et al. 2007a), concerning the possible damage to a building deriving from a faulting process. In fact, a trench excavated in the vicinity of a building, hosting a public facility, showed a vertical band of remolded soil underneath it. A geological and geophysical investigation was carried out to identify the origin of the band. It turned out that the band was probably generated during an earthquake about three hundred years ago. That event apparently produced a differential vertical displacement of about 50 cm across the band.
