ABSTRACT

Concretes exposed to chloride-containing environments, such as seawater or roads where de-icing salts are used in very cold weather, may have durability problems because of the chloride-induced corrosion of the steel reinforcement. This premature deterioration of concrete structures has led to an increasing demand for methods that better predict this distresses, and that can be used to evaluate the suitability of concrete mixes to satisfy the desired service life.
