ABSTRACT
Smorgon Steel Tube Mills (SSTM) launched its new product-the LiteSteel Beam (LSB) in 2005. The LSB is a hollow flange channel section manufactured from a single steel strip. The base steel strip, (nominal yield stress of 380 MPa), is cold formed and welded using the unique inline Dual Electrical Resistance Welding process to create the desired shape. The flanges of the LSB, due to extensive cold-forming, have an increased nominal yield stress of 450 MPa, whilst the web remains at 380 MPa. Figure 1 shows the shape and designation of the range of LSBs.
