ABSTRACT

The feature of the effective stress meter is to be able to measure internal stress directly in concrete even if the mechanical properties of the concrete (Young’s modulus, creep and shrinkage characteristics) are unknown. The structure of the equipment is described in Figure 1. The equipment is mainly composed of road cell, rectangular case and metal anchors. Concrete column which filled into the case also works as a part of the

equipment, anchoring both ends by the metal anchors. Circular flange installed at the outside of the road cell can sense the stress differences between inside and surrounding concrete (subject concrete) in the longitudinal direction. The case of the equipment consists of felt, wire net and filter paper in order to sever the subject concrete from the surrounding concrete keeping the concrete moisture through the equipment. Meanwhile, by connecting the both concrete with the metal anchors at the edge of the equipment the road cell can sense the tensile stress as well as the compressive stress.
