ABSTRACT

Steel corrosion caused by carbonation is one of the primary deterioration factors for reinforced concrete structures. Not only the change of pH in pore solution but also the decomposition of cement hydrates and the dissolution of carbon dioxide gas in pore solution has to be considered to understand the processes of steel corrosion due to carbonation in detail. In terms of the supply of chloride ions associatedwith steel corrosion, the decomposition of Friedel’s salt particularly plays an important role.
