ABSTRACT

A delta has been formed at the Nakdong River mouth as shown in Fig. 1. The longest river in Korea flowing from the north to the south gets divided into two

streams as it enters the delta. The delta area covers approximately 200 square km, and its south is open to sea while all other edges are surrounded by hills and mountains. Initially the land was a large rich farm producing plenty of agricultural products for feeding the citizens of neighboring Busan. Since late 1980s, the area was being developed to cope with industrialization ofKorea.Gimhae InternationalAirport is centered in the area and residential and industrial complexes were created in its north and the south. And now a new large port is under construction along the coastline (see Fig. 1). The area will be developed in the future as a key industrial belt in Korea.
