ABSTRACT

The construction of the Three Gorges Project and the water impounding of the reservoir will widely and continuously affect the geological environment around the Three Gorges Area, and cause a large number of geological problems. The Three Gorges Project is a world renamed irrigation and electricity project. Its construction and impounding action of reservoir will seriously and continuously affect the geological environment around the Three Gorges Area. Bank slope of Baima harbor district is typical bank slope in the three gorges reservoir. The chapter considers uniformly distributed storage loads that act on the harbor surface and analyses the effects on stability of the bank slope. The research on the slope stability also takes the effect of variable water-levels. Based on engineering geology conditions of the harbor, the chapter explains variable loadings and seepages, using FLAC3D software to simulate the deformation and failure mechanism of the slope.
