ABSTRACT
At present there are two basic types of sand is used by the industry. Green sand contains clay (mainly bentonite) as the binder, and the chemically bounded sand that uses polymer for the same purpose (Patridge, 1998). Green sand consists of 85-95% silica, 0-12% clay, 2-10% carbonaceous additives such as sea coal, and 2-5% water (Fox et al, 1998). In this study, green sand containing 5.43% bentonite was investigated and the material was obtained from Atacelik Corporation located in Istanbul.
