ABSTRACT
At present, approximately 450,000 tons of WFS is produced annually in Turkey. Unfortunately, virtually no WFS is utilized and the material is dump stockpiles. Majority of metal casting industry is concentrated in Istanbul and surroundings where dumping grounds are being exhausted. Increasing amount of landfilled WFS becoming an environmental problem and a public concern. The industry is desperate to find a way of utilization. Consequently, it is a significant problem for the country.
