ABSTRACT

Microbiology and Pathogenesis With only a few exceptions, such as group A beta-hemolytic streptococci and sexually transmitted organisms, the bacterial pathogens involved in gynecologic infections reflect the normal microflora of the vagina and cervix. This flora is complex and includes obligate anaerobes such as gram-negative bacilli, Peptostreptococcus sp., aerobic gram-negative bacilli of the Enterobacteriaceae family, and aerobic as well as microaerophilic streptococci.
