THE DEVELOPMENT OF RHEOLOGICAL EQUATIONS FOR SOILS

Having studied the results of the index tests the engineer may decide to carry out oedometer, triaxial and/or shear tests in order to obtain additional data on which to base a judgement of how the soil is likely to behave under stress in the field. If a decision is made to use a rheological model, such as eqn (2.7), to assist in interpreting the test results, appropriate functions of stress and strain will need to be defined to represent stress level and the deformed shape of the specimen.
