ABSTRACT

Also known as congenital triangular alopecia, temporal triangular alopecia may be present at birth or acquired during the first decade of life. Lesions outside the temporal area, and those acquired in adulthood, can rarely occur. The lancetshaped lesions (Figure 13.1) are a few centimeters in width, may be unilateral or bilateral, and are oriented so that that the tip of the ‘lancet’ points superiorly and posteriorly. Lesions appear hairless, but very fine vellus hairs can be seen with magnification. Once present, the patches of alopecia persist for life.
