Prevalence 2.6-5% of all neonates, 1% of premature newborns, unknown in fetuses. Definition Cystic formation, which is located in the caudothalamic groove or in the
caudate nucleus, lateral to the wall of the anterior horns of lateral ventricles. Synonyms Periventricular pseudocysts 1,2 . Etiology Infection (cytomegalovirus, rubella), subependymal hemorrhage, metabolic
diseases; chromosomal deletions (delq6, delp4), cocaine exposureand others. Pathogenesis Cystic cavity is lined by a pseudocapsule, consisting of aggregates of
germinal cells and glial tissue, but no epithelium can be found. Origin of pseudocysts is uncertain. Maybe cystic matrix regression or germinolysis.
