ABSTRACT
In 2002, the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) updated their staging system for breast cancer (see Appendix). Beyond staging, biological factors including age, menopausal status, involvement of axilliary lymph nodes, hormones (estrogen and progesterone) receptor status, growth phase of cancer cells, oncogene expression, and other information, provide prognostic information for survival in breast cancer patients.
