In-Process Monitoring for Control of Closed-Mold Techniques for the Manufacture of Thermosetting Matrix Composites

It is the aim of this chapter to review the technologies available for monitoring the progress of the processes employed for manufacture of continuous-fiber-reinforced thermosetting matrix composites in closed-mold techniques. The manufacturing techniques of special interest are usually referred to by the generic names liquid molding technologies (LMTs)

or liquid composite molding (LCM)

and, more specifically, resin transfer molding (RTM)

or resin infusion under flexible tooling (RIFT).
