INTRODUCTION

Virtually all fetuses that have chromosomal anomalies reveal malformations which may sometimes be subtle, but which affect the fetal circulation and/or anatomical structures. Most of these malformations occur during the weeks of embryonic development1-4. Since these anomalies occur in the embryo, transvaginal ultrasound is frequently the only technique capable of detecting them in the first trimester.
