ABSTRACT
The advent of distributed systems came hand in hand with that of workstations and personal computers. The presence of many computers interconnected by a network opened up several new possibilities:
1. Every user could have personal dedicated computing cycles, while the network still allowed sharing data or devices through centralized file servers, printers, etc.
