ABSTRACT
The best method for preventing postoperative infection is to screen the patient prior to surgery to determine the status of the endogenous vaginal microflora. If the patient does not have a Lactobacillus-dominant vaginal microflora, then treatment should be initiated to correct the condition and return the vaginal microflora to a Lactobacillus-dominant state.
